  • L.A Noire Tops June 2011 Software Sales According To NPD

L.A Noire kept its throne for the second time in a row by topping the software sales in June according to NPD. Duke Nukem was second while Infamous 2 finished with a 3rd position despite being on a single platform.

While L.A Noire and Duke Nukem were released on multiple platforms, Infamous 2 was released on PS3 only which made its sales more important than both of the games. According to Sony, Infamous 2 was the single best selling SKU of the month. The combined sales of all platforms for L.A Noire and Duke Nukem helped them claim the top 2 spots easily.

NPD results also showed the sales of Microsoft Xbox 360 which were twice as many as all current generation platform sales. The Xbox 360 sold about 507,000 units during June 2011.

  • DICE: Console Players ‘Aren’t Getting Less Battlefield 3′

Executive producer Patrick Liu on behave on DICE has ensured console gamers that they aren’t getting any less of Battlefield 3 compared to their PC counterparts. He gave some interesting answers to the questions asked, catch them after the break.

He was asked about what does he think about PC gamers getting bigger maps and 64 player mulitplayer compared to console gamers who were getting smaller maps and just 24 player multiplayer, he answered “They’re definitely not getting less of a game.” Well Mr. Liu if that’s not less then we don’t know what is.

    Rest of his answer:

It has the same amount of destruction and the same amount of visual fidelity. It’a also a misconception I’ve seen on the internet that the console version won’t have jets – that’s not true.

We’ve scaled the maps accordingly for console so it makes the pacing all right and the balancing is good,

If you play a big Conquest map then the map is balanced accordingly.

DICE head honcho Patrick Soderlund claimed that Battlefield 3 was capable of 256 player multiplayer like the PS3 exclusive FPS MAG. Patrick Liu had the following to say:

A lot of people ask us about 64 versus 128 or 256 players. Technically, we can go to 256, we’ve tried it, he revealed. We play tested with 128. You’ve got to make a game that’s fun to play and, arguably,

  • UK Is Crazy For Fitness, Transformers 3 Video Game Is Not A Bust

This week Zumba Fitness: Join the Party was released for Xbox 360 and Wii. It sold the most copies this week to claim the top spot in the UK sales chart.

Dirt 3 showed a much needed love and support as it jumped 2 places up from 4th place to 2nd place this week. While Transformers: Dark of the Moon movie was creating big explosions throughout the world, its video game was also nothing short of success and managed to sell enough copies to claim the 3rd spot behind Dirt 3.

In the 4th and 5th places, Lego: Pirates of the Caribbean and L.A Noire clanged to their spots. L.A Noire is showing some good legs even though it was released in May. It is still selling extremely well which is good news for its publisher Rockstar. Lego games mostly have good legs so Lego: Pirates of the Caribbean still selling well was no surpirse.

Call of Duty: Black Ops had the most impressive jump today and went 10 places up from 17th to 7th place. What was more surprising was the sales of Brink which was a critical failure. It received a lot of negative review but despite this all it is still in the top ten video games at 8th place.

  • New Battlefield 3 Details Revealed: Burst Firing, Friendly Fire, Weapons And More

DICE’s Alan Kertz decided to reveal a lot of new information about Battlefield just a few days before the Open Beta which starts on the 27th of September if you pre-ordered Battlefield through Origin or bought the Tier 1 edition of Medal of Honor. The Beta starts for everyone else on the 29th of September and ends on the 10th of October.

    • On the topic of friendly fire: “Friendly Fire misunderstanding: FF is Off by default, On by default in Hardcore. Server option as well. Spread the word.”
    • When asked to confirm there’s no “Dragons Breath” ammo for shotguns: “Yeah. And no bottle rockets. Both have similar effectiveness.”
    • When asked if the SU-39′s cannon will have different balance/stats due to it being powered by gas-blowback (versus electricity for the GAU): “Given it fires 3000rpm and actually has less spin up than the GAU, they are very similar in game and life.”
    • When asked if burst firing would be harder in Battlefield 3: “Tap firing has a larger recoil than the same rounds fired in full auto actually.” He then followed up with: “If you tap fired as fast as full auto the spread would’ve the same. Control recoil and pace your rounds it’s better.”
    • When asked about the M1911 pistol, and who gets access to it: “The M1911 is available to both Gun Club [members] and Veterans, however there are additional Veteran bonuses.”
    • When asked about Medal of Honor Limited Edition owners and the Battlefield 3 beta keys they should be receiving: “You don’t need a key, if your EA account is entitled to MOH LE then you get the beta access automatically early.”
    • When asked about the under-barrel grenade launcher and its one-hit kill shots: “Much smaller splash, minimum arm timer, and only direct.”
    • When asked about DICE’s support for the game once it’s released: “We’ve planned updates and additional content support, plus there is always other projects…”
