Apple may announce a new Mac mini within days, potentially ahead of its expected September 9 iPhone 18 Pro event. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman flagged the possible timing in a report covered by 9to5Mac and MacRumors.
The desktop could become Apple’s last new-product announcement before Tim Cook leaves the chief executive role on September 1. Apple’s September presentation is also expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro Max and a foldable handset reportedly called the iPhone Ultra.
Apple has tested M5 and M6 desktop models
Gurman said Apple has tested potential next-generation versions using M5 and M6 processors. The current small-form-factor computer uses the M4 family, with standard M4 and M4 Pro options. Buyers can configure those systems with 16GB to 48GB of memory and up to 8TB of storage.
Apple recently reintroduced a 256GB configuration priced at $799 after discontinuing an earlier $599 version. That change followed price increases across several Apple product categories, including Macs and iPads. A new entry-level configuration could therefore matter to buyers who want Apple silicon desktop hardware without moving into Mac Studio pricing.
Long delivery estimates add pressure for buyers
Apple’s US online store currently shows delivery estimates of four to 10 weeks for the compact desktop, depending on configuration. Demand for local AI processing and a memory-chip shortage have been linked to those delays. Anyone who needs a machine for work in the near term may have to choose between waiting for a refreshed model and ordering current hardware with a lengthy delivery window.
Apple said in February that Foxconn would assemble some units at its Houston, Texas, facility later this year. The plant opened in August, with Cook attending alongside US government officials. Domestic assembly gives the company another production location as it works through constrained component supply.
Apple has not confirmed an announcement, the processor generation, or the final specifications, pricing, availability, and assembly location of any new model. The company also has not confirmed September 9 as the iPhone 18 Pro event date.
