  • Apple retail employees get free Apps as holiday perk

Apple is known primarily for its popular hardware lineup. This includes the iPhone, iPad, iPod and the Mac lineup. Thorough out the last decade they have churned out quality products that have propelled them on top of the food chain. It’s easy to assume that the best part of Apple is their hardware division. But something that a lot of people are not aware of is that Apple has the best retail store setup in the world. Many have tried to replicate the success but failed. And with retail stores, retail employees form the heart and blood of customer relations.

Apple has decided to add a small perk to the existing pays of retail employees. The perk is called App Discovery and in it Apple retail employees will have free access to a catalogue of popular paid App Store applications. They will be able to use an Apple provided redemption code in order to purchase paid apps and games.

The program is currently only for the App Store, which is iOS exclusive, and not for the Mac App Store. It’s not a big payout or a bonus, but still a nice gesture none the less by Apple.

Kingston has announced its new DataTraveler Workspace USB drive that comes with Microsoft’s certification for use with the Windows To Go feature of Windows 8 Enterprise. This new USB will allow IT administrators as well as other users to carry their own ‘PC’ with them in their pocket and plug itself in the USB port of any compatible computer to boot their own Windows in it and operate.

In case you are not aware of what Windows To Go feature does, it is a new feature of Windows 8 that allows users to create a mobile workspace on a USB drive. They can install a fully funcional Windows in a USB drive and take it with them wherever they go. To use their mobile workspace they can simply plug the USB drive into a computer that has Windows 7 or Windows 8 installed, and directly boot from their own disk drive regardless of the operating system running on the PC. Windows 8 when connected to a new computer installs the required drivers automatically, and remembers them for the next time use.

Kingston’s DataTraveler Workspace incorporates SSD controller technology to produce high performance drive. It features support for both USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. It comes in 32, 64, and 128GB storage capacities and a two year warranty by Kingston.

  • iOS 6.0.1 update to bring numerous bug fixes

Apple released the iOS 6 update for the iPod, iPad and iPhone over a month ago. It brought a lot of new features to these devices like better iCloud support, all new Facebook integration, Panorama mode in the camera and over 200 other small features. However just like with any major release, there are a few issues in iOS 6 that needs to be addressed. These issues, according to a report, will be fixed in the upcoming iOS 6.0.1 update that is currently in testing.

One of the issues that will be resolved in iOS 6.0.1 update is the keyboard glitch we talked about that iPhone 5 users were facing. Other issues that will be resolved relates to the cellular data not working in some cases. Wifi will also be improved. Other bugs fixed in iOS 6.0.1 is a bug that allowed access to Passbook pass details from the lock screen, and also finally fix the bug that caused Exchange meetings to be unexpectedly cancelled for the entire calendar invite group. There’s an issue with the camera flash sometimes not going off sometimes, which will also be taken care of.

The iOS 6.0.1 update is currently in testing phase with carriers and will be pushed to users in the coming weeks.

  • Facebook for Android updated to make the photo uploading experience better

Official Facebook for Android app has received an update today which is now available for download in the Play store. The update brings several improvements to the official app, all of which are related to photo sharing using the app. Many of you would be relieved to know that Facebook has made the photo tagging experience faster for users.

With the updated version of the app users can choose an album they want to upload photos to, which was not possible before. The update also fixes the bug related to photo uploads which was affecting users who were using some other languages. While this is a minor update and there is a lot to be fix and improved in the Facebook for Android (which is still not at par with its iOS counterpart) it is nice to see regular updates from Facebook for its Android application. I am sure that a large number of those one billion Facebook users access the social network using their Android device so Facebook needs to pay some more attention of its app.

You can download Facebook for Android for your device for free from Google Play store here.

  • Resident Evil 6 Review

The Resident Evil franchise is one that I’ve followed for quite a long time and Resident Evil 6 was a game that I was greatly looking forward to this year. Since 2012 has not had a plethora of good games so far, Resident Evil 6 was on my “Highly Anticipated Games of 2012″.

However, after playing it, the hype has died and the fact that this was supposed to one of the most exciting games of the year, seemed highly absurd. Many would agree when I state that Capcom seemed let the Resident Evil franchise roll down the hill with the fifth game. The newest installment further strengthens this statement.

Whats wrong with this game? A lot of things. Read on in my Resident Evil 6 review to find out more.

reisdent evil 6 review 1 Resident Evil 6 Review

Well, the main thing in a survival horror zombie game are… the zombies. In Resident Evil 6, my opinion regarding the zombies varies. Some of them, especially the ones in Leon’s campaign, are the classic zombies that you’d expect. They’re scary, they’re unintelligent and the try to grab and bite you. On the other hand, the one’s in Chris’s campaign didn’t feel like zombies at all. Rather, they felt like regular soldiers. And why shouldn’t they? Whats the point of a zombie when you equip him with guns and ammunition? Yes, I understand that they’re smarter and they aren’t ‘regular’ zombies, but then you’d might as well turn this franchise into a pointless shooter. Sure, some of the bosses had a good unique design in all campaigns, but Capcom can do better than that.

Although the game still carries the tag of “Survival Horror”, it definitely didn’t feel like one. Instead, it was like a regular third person shooter. Although Leon’s campaign showcased some enigmatic, eerie areas, it still wasn’t enough to scare anyone. You do get to relive some moments of the previous games in the graveyard level as you get to kill those zombie dogs and get that nostalgic feeling, but that’s pretty much it. I recall Capcom boasting that RE6 would provide us with the “Pee-your-pants” horror that we all crave from this series. Sadly, this was a lie. A big, fat lie with a troll face on top.

reisdent evil 6 review 2 Resident Evil 6 Review

The game did have a good design though. The HUD had a very futuristic look and the areas looked neat too. Character designs are all polished up and the voice acting is superb. All this draws you into a well-written narrative as you discover the origins of this latest Biohazard.

Speaking of the narrative, it is split into three separate campaigns, or four if you consider Ada’s campaign to be important. Each campaign has it’s own individual story with independent premises and conclusions. All these stories are linked together and contribute to the main story line which can only be understood if all the campaigns are experienced. Since the game play is repetitive and boring, playing through all four campaigns seems like a difficult feat.

reisdent evil 6 review 3 Resident Evil 6 Review

Each campaign may have different characters, but the core game play is the same. Run, shoot, cinematic action, open a door – rinse and repeat. Sometimes, you end up wondering why you’re even playing this. A movie would have been a better idea. The cinematic actions are simply overdone, not to mention frustrating. It seems fun the first couple of levels, but then you realize that it’s the same thing over and over again, causing your thumbs to become sore with the repeated pressing. Not cool, Capcom. Couldn’t you guys have thought of something different to bring some variation to the game play?

The camera view is still the same too, in case someone was wondering. I’m not a huge fan of this camera angle, and was expecting it to be changed this time around. Some parts of the campaign would have been more fun if this angle was not present as it would give the players more freedom with the view and let them look around without the frustration of having to switch sides. Furthermore, the actions such as jumping over something, or rolling underneath an object, are still done by one single button when the option appears on screen. This is an out dated feature, without a doubt. Once again, this restricts the unrestrained freedom that the players need. Well, at least we can aim and move at the same time.

reisdent evil 6 review 4 Resident Evil 6 Review

Also, melee attacks have been made easier now. The ability to perform melee attacks is completely in the hands of the players. This is the only freedom given, actually. But this destroys the balance of the game. I cleared most of the game without having to use up too much of my ammunition. Most enemies are highly vulnerable to melee attacks and don’t require a bullet to the head to achieve death. This seems nice, until you realize that the game is just too easy. You can also simply run and avoid most of the enemies, making levels even easier.

Since the game features co operative play, you have two characters in the game. Firstly, this ruins the atmosphere. Since you realize that there is another person around to help you, you do not realize the intensity of the situation and the terror that the game is trying to invoke. Playing with a friend using co operative play further makes you feel relaxed. I fail to understand the point of survival horror when you’re playing a friend though. Also, since a partner is around, some actions like opening a large door require both the characters to be present at the location, which feels quite redundant and stupid.

reisdent evil 6 review 5 Resident Evil 6 Review

Well, these are just a few of the many things that cause Resident Evil 6 to fail as a proper horror game. When you play the game, you have a constant feeling that this game shouldn’t be the way it is. I guess all that hype was for naught.

If you’re a hardcore Resident Evil fan, no review can stop you from getting the game. But if you’re a sensible gamer, you should realize that Resident Evil 6 is a waste of your hard earned money. You can either skip this game, or wait for it to go on sale if you’re even mildly interested.

    TechDeville gives Resident Evil 6 a 2/5.

  • Shots Fired! Samsung Continues To Make Fun Of Apple With Their “It Doesn’t Take A Genius” Ad

After losing a $1 billion lawsuit against Apple last month Samsung is still not ready to back their anti-Apple campaign. After numerous “Samsunged” ads their latest campaign shows how “it doesn’t take a genius” to choose the better phone between the iPhone 5 and Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S III.

samsung ad Shots Fired! Samsung Continues To Make Fun Of Apple With Their It Doesnt Take A Genius Ad

The specs sheet comparison released by Samsung (pictured above) isn’t totally fair though with the Korean company referring to the Lightning connector as “a totally different plug,” and so on.

Which smartphone do you think is better? The Galaxy S III or iPhone 5? Let us know in the comments below.

  • iPhone 5′s A6 Chip Contains Samsung Made Processor And 1GB 1066MHz RAM

After being shown off via Samsung’s latest ad campaigns and confirmed by AnandTech, the iPhone 5 indeed has 1GB of RAM. Being such hardware geniuses as they are AnandTech dug up Samsung’s product guide to find more information about the iPhone 5′s processor which is given the ID number: K3PE7E700F-XGC2.

Apple thankfully didn’t obscure the details of its A6 slide at the launch event, which gave us a Samsung part number: K3PE7E700F-XGC2. Through crafty navigation of Samsung’s product guide, Brian Klug got us the details. The K3P tells us we’re looking at a dual-channel LPDDR2 package with 32-bit channels. The E7E7 gives us the density of each of the two DRAM die (512MB per die, 1GB total). The final two characters in the part number give us the cycle time/data rate, which in this case is 1066MHz.

Performance wise the A6 chip has 33% more peak memory bandwidth as compared to the iPhone 4S but its still less than that of the iPad 3 which runs at a much higher resolution.

We’ll just have to wait for further benchmarks to see how the iPhone 5 compares to other smartphones in the market.

  • This Is The iPhone 5; 4-inch Display, A6 Processor And 4G LTE For $199 Hitting Stores September 21st

Its finally here folks! After months if not years of speculation (rumors starting before the iPhone 4S was out) the iPhone 5 is finally official. Yes its called the iPhone 5 and not the next iPhone or iPhone 4GS as some people were speculating.

The iPhone 5 looks just like the leaks said it would, the chassis is a 7.6mm super thin blend of glass and aluminum making it 18% thinner than the iPhone 4S. Its not just thinner but lighter as well weighing in at just 112 grams.

The screen has finally been upgraded to a 4-inch Retina Display running at 1136 x 640 res which equals to around 326ppi. The display also offers better color saturation with full sRGB rendering greatly improving video quality. The bigger screen and resolution puts the display a bit shy off 16:9 due to which first party apps including Garage Band and iMovie have been updated while older apps will work in a letterbox configuration until they’re updated.

The iPhone 5 now also supports 4G LTE with US carriers Sprint, Verizon and AT&T offering plans. The older HSPA+, EV-DO, EDGE are also available along with 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi if you want to overspend your wireless budget.

The beast powering the iPhone 5 is the brand new A6 processor which Apple claims is two times faster than the iPhone 4S. The A6 is also 22% smaller making it much more energy efficient. Cupertino’s engineers claim 8 hours of talk time on LTE and 10 hours on WiFi.

The camera on the iPhone 5 is the same as the iPhone 4S except for being a bit thinner. If you aren’t aware its an 8 megapixel 5 element lens and an f/2.4 aperture lens. The major improvement is the much faster shutter speed which Apple claims is 40% faster. The new panoramic photo mode captures and stitches together a 28 megapixel image. The camera just as the iPhone 5 captures video in 1080p. The front camera also got a bit of a boost and now captures video in 720p, perfect to compliment Facetime over that 4G LTE.

The iPhone 5 also upgraded its microphone to five-magnet transducer which greatly improves voice quality on networks which support it.

The dock connector has been upgraded as well, and the pins are down to 8 just as the leaks suggested. Apple’s new 8-pin connector is 80% smaller and is called Lightning. Apple will also be selling an adapter for customers who wish to use the older connector’s accessories with Lightning.

On the software side the iPhone 6 runs on iOS 6 out of the box just as expected.

The iPhone 5 will be available in two colors, Black and White. The prices will stay the same at $199 for the 16GB model, the 32GB will cost $299 and the 64GB $399 so there’s no premium for LTE. Shipments for Shipments in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore start on the 21st while pre-orders start on the 14th of September. Apple will be adding around 20 more markets in the coming months, more details on that later.

So will you be getting one? Let us know in the comments below.
