  • Sony’s New CEO Kaz Hirai Aiming To Conquer The Gaming Market

Kaz Hirai is all set to become Sony’s new President and CEO replacing Howard Stringer this April. According to Japanese News site Mantanweb Hirai will be focusing on capturing the gaming and digital imaging market.

Hirai hopes to use profits (if there are any) from the sales of the PS3, PSP and Vita fund the company’s mobile devices sector. It will surely be exciting to see how Hirai aims to turn Sony around as the company just posted a $2 Billion Q3 loss on sales of over $23 Billion. • Sony Posts $2 Billion Q3 Loss, PS3 Sales Reach 62 Million

Looks like the dark days for Sony are still here as the company has posted a huge $2 Billion loss for their Q3 results. The Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 once again, this time by over 1.7 million units and by 0.8 Million this financial year.

Analysts expected Sony to make a loss this quarter just like the previous ones but this is one of their biggest ones yet, it’s sad to see the company which was once on top of the world crumble in just a single generation.

Sony explained that $800 Million of the loss was due to the sale of S-LCD share to Samsung, while the rest was due to the value of the Yen appreciating by 10% and the floods in Thailand which greatly harmed the electronics industry.

  • GTA 5 So Far: Ned Luke Not The Lead Character

GTA V rumors and speculations are buzzing with anticipation as Rockstar closes in on releasing the second trailer to their highly anticipated title. A couple of weeks ago, it was reported by various sources that Ned Luke will be doing the voice-over work for the main character in the game and he will be a completely new addition to the series, this destroyed the hopes and dreams to see Tommy Vercetti making a comeback as Tommy is starred by the infamous Ray Liotta. Even the official GTA 5 IMDB page enlisted Ned Luke as the lead character of the game. It has just been revealed that the entire Ned Luke story was a hoax and the details have been removed from the IMDB page.

GTA 5 might actually have Tommy Vercetti in it. While nothing is confirmed right now, we are back to where we were ever since the trailer came out. Ned Luke is not playing the lead since his name has now been taken off from the IMDB listing and he even deleted his Twitter account. This is all either another hoax and he eventually will be exposed as the lead or we will see the real man behind the voice pretty soon. Rockstar is notorious for keeping every little detail under wraps until they themselves want to expose it, so this could also be their way of hiding the inevitable.

In other news, the appearance of CJ is still a mystery in GTA 5. The location is San Andreas, so we are bound to meet our old friend but it hasn’t been confirmed. We see an African American highlighted in various different scenes of the first GTA 5 trailer, could that be CJ? Would he look like that in present time? Keep it locked here for more updates from GTA 5 as it develops.

  • Facebook For Android 1.8.2 Released, Still Rigged With Bugs

Just about ten hours ago Facebook released an update to their official Facebook For Android App, and to everyone’s dismay it still comes jam-packed with bugs and errors. While the iPhone and Blackberry get the perfect Facebook treatment in their own app worlds, Android users still have to resort to FriendCaster, an independent app for Facebook that is the most complete Facebook app as of yet. Facebook said:

We just released Facebook for Android 1.8.2 with better memory management, and all kinds of bug fixes.

While the “memory management” part was not really explained, the app still can not be installed on the SD card which is one of the most basic feature of every app in the Android Marketplace.

Check out an excerpt from the Facebook App wall, users have nothing but complaints:

Push Notifications still aren’t there, photos take forever to load, commenting is still not enabled in albums, the notifications come and go as they please, messages appear very delayed and so on and so forth. And to be more dramatic, Via Android is STILL not back!

Version 1.8.3 should at least fix some of the many issues pointed out by the infuriated Android community.

  • Android Market Too Slow? Even On WiFi? We Have Your Fix

There’s nothing worse than a slow connection but what if your Internet speed is fast but the content you’re trying to receive as in this case the Android Market is still crawling at snail’s speed? Well the folks over at XDA have you covered (like always) and have created a fix which you can download from the Android Market and give your Android Market a huge speed boost.

The problem with the Android Market being slow is it’s ability to resolve DNS servers, which reduce it’s speed greatly even on your home WiFi. The fix here is an app called Set DNS which makes your phone use the best DNS possible and greatly improve speeds. Download links for both the free and paid version are below, do note the free version expires after time.

  • It’s Time For Timeline – Mandatory Change

Facebook makes Timeline mandatory for all its users (which are over one billion from all over the world). The feature that has been loved and hated alike has now been deemed as being a mandatory thing on Facebook for every user whether they want it or not. Facebook has always been doing this design change ever since their inception and they don’t really wait for the users or listen to them about the changes, they know the users will have no choice but to follow.

I personally think Timeline is too confusing, I love my current profile and Wall it’s all so simple and straight-forward. While a lot of people are getting hooked with the funky new covers and all, a majority of Facebook users are revolting against the change and haven’t yet applied the Timeline on their own profiles. Unbeknownst to them, they don’t really have a choice anymore.

Facebook is supposedly going to apply this mandatory change throughout their entire database sometime next month. Users will be given a time period of seven days to remove or hide any old posts they didn’t want others to see, after the initial seven days of application the Timeline will be completely implemented.

Don’t get me wrong, Facebook is one of the biggest gamechangers of the online industry, but why force users to like something when they don’t want to? Why fix something that’s already perfect? What do you guys have to say about this?

  • Zynga Copies Another Facebook Game

Zynga, a popular game-studio that designs Facebook games, has again been pointed the finger at for copying another game for their own release. They are the creators behind the enormously famous Farmville and Mafia Wars. They are also very well-known for taking design and gameplay concepts from other smaller studios and copying it for their own use without any courtesy for the original game makers.

A smaller gaming studio accused Zynga of copying their game “Tiny Tower” and creating their own called “Dream Heights”. This week a studio called Buffalo Studios accused them for stealing their gaming concept from Venture Beats and creating their own game called “Buffalo’s Bingo Blitz”.

People are now starting to hate this gaming company, they very smoothly copy big ideas from smaller companies and make them into their own. I don’t believe in not copying ideas, but proper courtesy is necessary if you’re working on someone else’ creation.
