With the iPad Mini hogging all news lately, it’s easy to forget Apple already has a tablet in their portfolio, the new iPad or iPad 3. Released during the WWDC time earlier this year, the new iPad is one of the best tablets money can buy. Usually Apple refreshes their product cycle every 12 month, but these leaks of a different iPad model with A6 SoC shows a refresh might be on its way sooner than expected.
The current models of iPad 3 are ”iPad3,1,” “iPad3,2″ and “iPad3,3″ depending on its iteration. This new iPad model with A6 SoC however has a model name “iPad 3.6″. This model was discovered by an app developer in his app analytics log and shows it running an ARMv 7 processor which is the same architecture as the A6 SoC. We heard rumours of a product refresh by Apple later this year to update them to the new lightning connector, but with this unknown iPad model with A6 SoC it seems as if a much bigger update is in progress.
Do note that the A6 has a triple core GPU where as the A5X in iPad 3 has a quad core GPU, so for all intents and purposes it could be a tweaked A6 or something else entirely. Or maybe this unknown iPad model with A6 SoC is the rumoured iPad mini?
